Domain Rating (DR)

A plain-language Open Developer definition.

Definition

What it means

Domain Rating is Ahrefs' proprietary metric estimating the strength of a website's overall backlink profile on a 0-100 scale, used industry-wide as a shorthand for a site's authority even by people who don't use Ahrefs directly. A similar metric, Domain Authority (DA), is Moz's competing version of the same concept.

Why teams track it

Why it matters

DR and DA are widely used as quality filters in link building — a link from a DR 70+ site is treated as far more valuable than one from a DR 15 site. Several agencies reviewed on this site price their services directly around DR thresholds (Loganix's premium tier targets DR 70+ placements at $850/link, for example), making the metric directly relevant to what you're paying for.

Our Loganix, uSERP, and The HOTH reviews all reference DR/DA thresholds directly as a way of comparing placement quality across agencies.
