The short version

Profound has the deepest data and the biggest customer logos in AI visibility tracking. Whether that translates into $99-a-month value or $2,000-a-month value depends entirely on which tier you actually need — and Profound's own pricing page makes that surprisingly hard to figure out.

Profound: What It Is, Who It's For

Profound is an enterprise-oriented platform that tracks how a brand shows up inside AI-generated answers — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Copilot, and (on higher tiers) a longer tail including Grok, Meta AI, DeepSeek, and Amazon Rufus. It was founded in New York in 2024 by James Cadwallader and Dylan Babbs, and has since raised roughly $155M, including a $96M Series C in February 2026 at a $1B valuation led by Lightspeed, with Sequoia and Kleiner Perkins also participating. That's the most funding of any company in this category by a wide margin, and it shows up in the product: this isn't a scrappy dashboard, it's built for procurement processes, SOC 2 Type II compliance, and SSO.

The customer list backs that positioning up — public references include Ramp, MongoDB, Figma, Zapier, Docusign, Walmart, LG, US Bank, Target, and Airbyte, and the company claims 700+ enterprise customers including over 10% of the Fortune 500. Profound was also named a Leader in G2's inaugural Answer Engine Optimization category for Winter 2026.

Who it's actually for: marketing, growth, and PR teams at organizations large enough to have a dedicated AI-visibility budget and someone whose job it is to act on the data weekly. If you're a solo marketer or a small team just trying to find out whether ChatGPT mentions your brand at all, Profound's positioning — and its pricing, see below — is aimed well above you.

What Profound Actually Does

Answer Engine Insights. This is the core dashboard: visibility score trends, industry rankings, and platform/region filters, letting you see at a glance how your brand performs across AI platforms over time. Reviewer consensus describes the dashboard as data-dense — genuinely useful once you know what you're looking for, but not something you hand to a junior marketer on day one without a walkthrough.

Prompt Volumes. This is the feature most reviewers single out as genuinely differentiated: rather than only telling you where you rank for prompts you've configured, it shows actual AI search demand by topic, with demographic breakdowns. That turns AI visibility from a lagging vanity metric into something closer to a content-planning input — you can see what people are actually asking before you decide what to build content around. No other tool in this category currently publishes anything comparable at this depth.

Profound Agents. A no-code, credit-metered automation layer for turning visibility gaps into action — content research, drafting, optimization, and CMS publishing via a drag-and-drop builder. This is the newest and least-proven part of the platform. Reviewer consensus is consistent: promising but immature. Content ships with an approval step, but there's no article-level quality scoring, and credits are consumed on top of the subscription price, which complicates the pricing math further.

Engine coverage by tier. This is the detail that actually matters for buying decisions and is easy to miss on a quick look at the pricing page: Starter tracks ChatGPT only. Growth adds two more engines (commonly reported as Perplexity and Google AI Overviews) for a ceiling of three. Everything else — Claude, Gemini, Grok, Copilot, Meta AI, DeepSeek — requires Enterprise, which is sales-gated and unpriced publicly.

Profound Pricing

Profound publishes two self-serve tiers and gates the third behind a sales call:

  • Starter — $99/month (billed annually): ChatGPT only, 50 tracked prompts, 1 seat, 100 Agent credits.
  • Growth — $399/month (billed annually): 3 answer engines, 100 prompts, 3 seats, 400 Agent credits.
  • Enterprise — custom pricing: up to 9+ engines, SSO/SAML, API access, dedicated AEO strategist, dedicated Slack support with a 24-hour SLA. Real-world Enterprise deployments are commonly reported landing between $2,000 and $5,000+/month depending on platform count and seats.

Worth flagging: the publicly reported pricing for this tool is unusually inconsistent across the review sites we surveyed — several otherwise-credible-looking sources cite a "$499/month Lite" tier that doesn't match Profound's current published pricing page of $99/$399/custom. We're noting that discrepancy rather than quietly picking a number, because it's a small, concrete example of exactly the problem this site exists to fix: a lot of "reviews" in this space are reprinting stale or unverified numbers from each other rather than checking the source.

At $399/month, Growth is really the entry point for a usable AEO program — the $99 Starter's ChatGPT-only limit is narrow enough that most reviewers we cross-referenced don't consider it a serious option on its own.

Strengths

Profound Pros

  • Prompt Volumes' demand data appears to be a genuine, hard-to-replicate differentiator, not just marketing language
  • Deepest enterprise customer base and funding in the category — real signal for procurement-stage credibility
  • SOC 2 Type II, SSO, and dedicated support make it usable inside large-company security requirements
  • G2 Winter 2026 Leader standing with a substantial (140+) verified review base

Trade-offs

Profound Cons

  • Entry-tier engine coverage is narrow enough (ChatGPT only) to function closer to a bait tier than a real starting plan
  • Full multi-engine coverage requires an opaque, sales-gated Enterprise tier
  • Publicly reported pricing is inconsistent across sources, which makes honest comparison shopping harder than it should be
  • Agents automation layer is new and credit-metered on top of subscription cost — watch total cost of ownership

The competitive set

How Profound Compares

Bottom line

Profound Verdict

Profound has real, distinctive strengths — Prompt Volumes in particular looks genuinely hard for competitors to match — and the enterprise customer base suggests the platform holds up under scrutiny from large, risk-averse buyers. But the pricing story is messier than a company this well-funded should allow, and the entry tier is narrow enough that most buyers will find themselves needing Growth or Enterprise almost immediately. Recommended for teams with real budget and a dedicated owner for the data; a poor fit for anyone shopping on the $99 headline price alone.
